What is WPM?
Words Per Minute (WPM) is a standard metric for typing speed. In these tests, a "word" is standardized to 5 characters (including spaces). This ensures fair measurement regardless of whether you're typing long or short words.
How we calculate Net WPM
We provide a "Net WPM" score, which means mistakes penalize your final score. If you type 100 WPM but with only 50% accuracy, your Net WPM will drop to 50. This encourages you to focus on accuracy first, and speed second.
Average Typing Speeds
- Average: 40 WPM
- Above Average: 50 - 60 WPM
- Professional / Coder: 65 - 75 WPM
- Competitive Typist: 90 - 120+ WPM
